Description

Tulare County Library was established in 1910, with headquarters in the county courthouse. As there was only one entrance available, freight was deposited at the front door. A balcony provided access to the upper stacks, the only means of expansion. The labor of carrying books up and down the steep, shallow stairs was reduced by means of a basket hung on a pulley.
