Description

This photoshows the marker installed in 1958, commemorating the Butterfield Overland Mail Route used from 1858 to 1881 from Stockton to Los Angeles, CA. It was part of the route between St. Louis and San Francisco, and was the first overland mail operated on a regular schedule. It followed an earlier emigrant trail. The marker was placed by the California State Park Commission in cooperation with the Tulare County Historical Society.
