The company is located at 1825 Marion Street in Kingsburg supplying cottonseed, meal and hulls. The first cotton in the Kingsburg area appeared in the early 1920s. By 1958 Fresno County produced cotton valued at over $82 million. The rapid development of the cotton industry brought the Kingsburg Cotton Oil Company to Kingsburg in 1938 taking over the abandoned California Peach and Fig Association Building. The lint from the seed is packed in bales and shipped to furniture manufacturers and other industries while the meal is compressed and sold under the firm's own brand for cattle feed. Description An account of the resource Front view of Kingsburg High School. The building faced Eighteenth Avenue and was ready for classes in September 1916. It initially was comprised of an auditorium in the center with two attached classroom wings. Development continued with the addition of both tennis courts and volleyball courts in 1918. A music building was added in 1935 and an industrial arts building in 1936. A gym was added in 1940. The old main building was demolished in 1972 to make way for major changes on the campus. Description An account of the resource A possible tour group inside Boyden Cavern. Boyden Cavern is a limestone cave located in the 8,000 feet deep Kings River Canyon between Grants Grove and Cedar Grove in the Sequoia National Forest. The cave was discovered by J.P. Boyden, a logger and prospector financed by Denver S. Church, a Fresno attorney. The two filed claim to a large tract that included Boyden along with several other limestone caves. The Church-Boyden system is considered one of the most extensive cave systems in California. Boyden and Church were the first to investigate the caves in the Kings Canyon region about 1908. The Boyden Cave was developed commercially in 1939-1942. Description An account of the resource View of Grand Sentinel (on the right) as seen from Zumwalt Meadow. Grand Sentinel and North Dome are striking rock formations on opposite sides of the meadow. The bank of the Kings River forms the north edge of the meadow and mountains, such as the Grand Sentinel form the south boundary. Mr. D.K. Zumwalt, a railway attorney, was instrumental in saving this area in the early 1900s. Description An account of the resource The Giant Sequoia called the General Grant Tree, the world's third-largest sequoia after the General Sherman tree and the Washington tree. The tree was discovered in 1862 by Joseph Hardin Thomas and named in 1867 by Lucretia Baker. Charles E. Lee of Sanger organized the first Christmas Day celebration at the tree in 1925. The following year President Coolidge designated the General Grant Tree as the "Nation's Christmas Tree" on 28 April 1926. On 29 March 1956 President Eisenhower proclaimed the tree as a living memorial to those who have died serving their country with a dedication ceremony held on Veterans Day, 11 November 1956.
