Hampton sold his site and store holdings of the town called Hamptonville near San Joaquin River to a railroad developer named Marcus Pollasky. Mr. Pollasky who was building a 27 mile railroad from Tulare Street in Fresno to this location. The original plan was for the railroad to be the beginning of a transcontinental railroad through the Sierra Nevada mountains. The railroad never went past the town then called Pollasky, CA. The town was renamed again in the 1920s to its current name of Friant, CA. This photo shows a Cash (general) Store in the town of Pollasky most likely taken in the 1890s. The Pollasky District was created in 1892, annexed by the Millerton District in 1894, re-created in 1905, and merged with the Friant District to form the Friant Union District in 1945.
