The Artesian Belt of central California was a region of land lying along the northern, eastern, and southern boundaries of Tulare Lake. In 1886, there were more than 200 artesian wells in this area.

Elbow school (located near Ivanhoe, California) was established in 1858.

Deer Creek School was organized in 1874; it unionized with Terra Bella School District in 1932.
