Some of the more interesting are early Fresno scenes from the 1870s and 1880s taken by pioneer photographer Roderick W. Riggs, and a number of images detailing the construction of Friant Dam in the late 1930s and early 1940s.

An account of the resource
Early Fresno photographer Roderick W. Riggs (1859-1940) created rogues galleries of pioneer Fresnans by tearing photos and gluing them on heavy pieces of cardboard. He titled his portrait composites according to some shared trait. Starting in the upper left corner, we have the following individuals: W.D. Tupper (William Drane Tupper 1847-1906) District Attorney 1888-92, H.C. Tupper (Henry Clay Tupper 1842-1922) Attorney and City Council 1897-1901, Geo E. Church (George E. Church 1841-1928) Superior Court Judge 1896 & 1901-1918, E.W. Risley (1853-1918) Superior Court Judge 1895-1900, L.L. Cory (Lewis Lincoln Cory 1861-1929) attorney, Geo McCullough, founder of Fresno Water Works, E.C. Ferguson (?-1882), Will Donahoo, Scott Ashman (J. Scott Ashman -1878) tax collector 1859-67, 1871-73, 1874-77, and Sheriff 1874-77, A.J. Thorn (Andrew Jackson Thorn 1827-?) Treasurer 1874-84, John Donahoo, Henry Smart, R.E. Beckwaith, H.C. Bresee 1831-1920) Public Administrator 1883-84, Jess Morrow (1827-1897) rancher, miner and at one time one of the richest men in the county, Jeff Shannon (1831-1902) Undersheriff and politician, Louis Gundelfinger (1849-1938) merchant and banker, with Louis Einstein formed Bank of Central California, M.J. Church (Moses James Church 1818-1900) irrigation pioneer in Frenso, Judge S.A. Holmes (Samuel A. Holmes 1830-1894) First Superior Court Judge 1879-84 & 91-94, Judge E.C. Winchell (Elisha Cotton Winchell 1826-1913) District Attorney 1861-63 and District Court Judge 1863-67, O.P.
