Postcard: There are no known photos of Tulare County, CA's, first and second courthouses, the latter of which was built in 1858. This photo shows the third courthouse, built in 1877 at a cost of $59,700. It was constructed based upon drawings of the 1858 courthouse in an attempt to duplicate it. It was located in the center of Block 21, City of Visalia, bounded by Church, Center, Court and Oak streets.

This adobe cabin, occupied by Native Americans, was located at T.21S.,R.28 E., M.D.B. & M., about 3.5 miles east of the city of Porterville, Tulare County, CA. This tract was informally established in 1856 as an Indian Reservation, and was acquired byThomas P. Madden in 1857-58. Rental was paid to him by the U. S. Government until 1873, when the Tule River Indian Reservation was established.
