Street scene in Friant, California on November 10, 1939. The Friant Garage is seen to the left. The Friant Dam groundbreaking had been held just five days previous on November 5, 1939. Construction of the dam caused an influx of job seekers looking for work during the Great Depression.

Fresno Street in 1920 looking east from the corner of J (now Fulton Street) and Fresno streets. The Hippodrome Theater is seen on the left side of the street. The Hippodrome was originally the Barton Opera House, opened on September 29, 1890 by vineyardist Robert Barton. Performances included variety, melodrama troupes and beginning in 1901, vaudeville. Mr. Lewis L. Cory bought the Barton Opera House in 1909 and renamed it the Theater Fresno. Over the years the Barton was known as the Hippodrome, the State, the Esquire, the Sequoia and Towne Cinema theaters.

Photo of an automobile parked in front of the ticket office of the Coalinga Motor Car Company Auto Stage Line. The 1910 Coalinga city directory gives the address as 168 5th Street and lists Mr. Henry T. Chrisman as the firm's president and manager. The business appears to have been shortlived appearing only in the 1910 directory. A Mr. Henry T. Chrisman is listed in the 1907-1908 directory with the profession of "bee keeper".

An account of the resource
Intersection of 4th and C streets in Coalinga, California, after a winter storm on 25 January 1914. The headline of the 26 January 1914 Fresno Morning Republican read "Cloudburst at Fresno, Citizens Guard Levees, River Bottom Danger." The Kings River was reported at highest point in 50 years. The paper reported rainfall of "over half an inch falling in less than an hour between 2 and 3 p.m." The 27 January 1914 Fresno Morning Republican reported the highest water level since the great flood of the 1860s with "Untold damage to County bridges".
