Funded by a grant from the California State Library, the "Shades" project is a collection of more than 300 photographs provided by the Chinese and Japanese residents of Tulare County. Spanning the decades from the late nineteenth century until the present day, these images are a representation of the history and heritage of the Chinese and Japanese residents of Tulare County. Photographs of farm life, early businesses, athletics, the Visalia flood of 1955, the Japanese relocation camps, and family groups are just some of the varied elements of this collection.
