World War, 1914-1918
Description
An account of the resource
The Annie R. Mitchell History Room contains a collection of more than 300 photos of men who served in the Army and Navy during World War I. Most of these photos were taken when the men were at the training camps. The prints were sent to local newspapers for publication. The library collection includes only those men who were from northern Tulare County (from Visalia and Exeter north). The collection also includes some photos of soldiers taken during their service in Europe, probably sent by the men themselves to their families at home.

Description
An account of the resource
Documenting the local history of our Japanese and Chinese population. Funded by a grant from the California State Library, the "Shades" project is a collection of more than 300 photographs provided by the Chinese and Japanese residents of Tulare County. Spanning the decades from the late nineteenth century until the present day, these images are a representation of the history and heritage of the Chinese and Japanese residents of Tulare County. Photographs of farm life, early businesses, athletics, the Visalia flood of 1955, the Japanese relocation camps, and family groups are just some of the varied elements of this collection.
