Description

Picture taken just south of Tulare Street looking northward on I Street (now Broadway). On the left is the 3-story Hughes block, an elaborate brick and iron structure 75 x 150 feet in size, costing $100,000. The first floor is occupied by the People's Savings Bank of Fresno, Wells, Fargo & Co Express office, Wellman, Peck & Co's wholesale grocery and W.T. Mattingly & Co insurance and real estate agency. The second and third floors are used for lodging. The opposite side of the street is the Braly building, the first floor is general merchandising, the upper story housing two departments of the Superior Court and numerous offices of professional men.
