Description

Aerial view of downtown Fresno in the early 1920s looking east with the County Courthouse in the upper center of the photo. Clearly seen in the upper right is the Hotel California (built in 1923) at the corner of Van Ness and Kern. Proceeding down Fulton Street is the Bank of Italy Building (1918) at Fulton and Tulare streets followed by the county's first skyscraper, the Griffith-McKenzie Building (later name changed to Helm) completed in 1914 at Fulton and Mariposa. Reaching Fresno Street is the Mattei Building (1921) at Fulton and Fresno Street.
