Description

Boating on the lake at Roeding Park, the first city park in Fresno, located on the donated land from Frederick C. Roeding. Park designed by Johannes Reimas, a landscape architect from Stockton. Initial 71.76 acres were given to the city in 1903. George C. Roeding, son of Frederick C. Roeding, later served as a park commissioner and frequently donated trees and shrubs from his own nursery. The park became a center of community gatherings. City zoo originated here with donated animals and Roeding Park Zoo was officially recognized in 1923.
