Description
Picture of Sentinel Elementary School, located two miles north of the intersection of Morgan Canyon and Tollhouse roads, near Tollhouse, Calif. Western Stick architectural style. The schoolhouse consisted of one room, measured 24 x 28 feet, and was built with lumber hauled in from the Meadow Lakes area. John McDowell donated the land for the school and Peter Donahue contributed materials for construction. In 1887, a small cemetery was founded adjacent to the school property. The schoolhouse was destroyed by fire in 1938 and a replacement structure was built nearby.
