Alfred Harrell was publisher of the Bakersfield Californian for nearly 50 years. In 1931, he became founding president of the Kern County Historical Society. This photo was part of that society's celebration of its 45th anniversary in April, 1976, published in the March 1976 issue of Historic Kern.
